It would cost 3.9 billion
euros to build a bridge across the Strait of Messina connecting
Sicily with mainland Italy, Renato Mazzoncini, the CEO of
railways company FS, said on Wednesday.
On Tuesday Premier Matteo Renzi revived the idea of
building the bridge, saying it would create 100,000 jobs.
"Today the bridge over the Strait is an infrastructure
that, from a construction point of view, costs 3.9 billion
euros," Mazzoncini said at the presentation of FS's new 10-year
plan.
He added that, if all major international transport
corridors cost around 120 billion euros, "the problem can't be
the 3.9 for the bridge".
