Italian magistrates union ANM on
Wednesday slammed a government measure delaying the retirement
age of top judges by a year.
The decree approved by the government on Tuesday is
unconstitutional as "it produces clear situations of disparity
of treatment", ANM said, urging the cabinet to reconsider
"immediately".
Under the measure, the state pension age for magistrates
with managerial positions at Italy's highest appellate court,
the Cassation Court, top administrative court the Council of
State, and the State Audit Court, as well as attorney generals,
is set to be 72.
The retirement age for other members of the judiciary is 70.
