Local authorities, mayors and
experts will be convened by the government to draw up an
adequate anti-seismic plan for Italy following last Wednesday's
6.2 magnitude quake in central regions that left 290 people dead
and a further 10 missing, Transport and Infrastructure Minister
Graziano Delrio said on Monday.
Delrio said the government aims to draw up "something
serious that might enable us to reduce the damage caused by
these exceptional events to a minimum".
"The last budget law contained initial incentives to carry
out seismic restructuring," the minister continued.
"We need to insist with greater force because the public
buildings that accommodate our young people, but also the
hospitals, need to be absolutely safe," he said.
