Premier Matteo Renzi ensured
government support and solidarity towards communities in the
central Marche region affected by a 6.0 magnitude earthquake in
an SMS message to Governor Luca Ceriscioli on Wednesday morning.
Messages also poured in from other regional governors with
offers of personnel and equipment for rescue operations.
Lazio Governor Nicola Zingaretti called on the public not
to obstruct the Salaria road leading from the capital to a
mountainous region in upper Lazio that was also devastated by
the seism.
"Don't clog the Salaria, a crucial artery for rescue
services," Zingaretti said in the city of Rieti, where he
arrived after news hit of the quake. "I'm here to give my
support to rescuers and volunteers who are saving lives. All law
enforcement forces are mobilized for this incredible
catastrophe".
