Premier Matteo Renzi said
Friday that his government was ending the practice of giving
empty promises in its policies to develop Italy's less wealthy
southern regions. "Too often in the past the political world has
paid with cheques that bounce in Taranto," Renzi said during a
visit to the southern city's archaeological museum. "We are here
to say that the time of bouncing cheques is over".
