Italian President Sergio Mattarella
on Wednesday commemorated the ''barbaric murder'' of Italian
researcher Giulio Regeni earlier this year in Egypt, speaking of
the ''sad events'' that have recently struck Italians.
The president said ''many fellow citizens have lost their
lives or are still dealing with the consequences of these
events'', mentioning the terror attack in Dhaka on July 4, in
which nine of the 20 victims were from Italy, the July 12 train
accident in Puglia that left 23 dead and the July 14 terror
attack in Nice in which 84 were killed, including six Italians.
''In addition to them is the barbaric murder of Giulio
Regeni'', he said of the Cambridge researcher who was tortured
and murdered earlier this year in Cairo.
