(see related)The region of
Lombardy will respect the law, regional councillor for welfare
Giulio Gallera said on Thursday after the Council of State said
it was unlawful for patients to have to pay for donor gamete
fertility treatments.
The decision by the top administrative court upheld a
ruling by a regional administrative court (TAR), rejecting an
appeal by the Lombardy.
Gallera said the region would prepare a resolution that
makes specific reference to the indications given by the court.
Lombardy is the only region to request couples pay for the
whole treatment after a supreme court ruling struck down a law
banning fertility treatments with donor sperm and eggs.
In other regions in Italy couples are requested to pay a
contribution that is a fraction of the overall cost, which
ranges from 1,500 to 4,000 euros.
