The anti-establishment 5-Star
Movement (M5S) on Thursday commented on Premier Matteo Renzi's
rumoured plans to change Italy's new electoral law by saying
that "you cannot fight the wind with your hands".
The comment came in a post on the blog by party leader
Beppe Grillo, who has said the M5S is ready to govern after
winning several key mayoral run-offs including Rome and Turin.
A chastened Renzi is rumoured to be thinking of changing
the 'Italicum' election law so that it does not favour the M5S
in run-offs.
"Renzi wants to change the cards on the table because he is
afraid of losing. A cheap cardsharp with his tail between his
legs," Grillo's blog called him, noting that "it is impossible
to change the electoral law to prevent the inevitable, you
cannot stop the wind with your hands.
"When M5S gets into the government, the electoral law will
be anchored to the Constitution to prevent parties from changing
it whenever it is useful for them to do so."
