European Commission Vice-President
Valdis Dombrovskis on Tuesday said the European Union and Italy
are discussing possible measures to bolster Italian banks amid
concerns following the Brexit vote.
"We're closely monitoring the situation with the banking
sector in Italy and we're in close touch with the Italian
authorities as regards possible steps", Dombrovskis told
Bloomberg in an interview in Brussels.
"There are different modalities of possible actions that
are still being discussed so I cannot comment in more detail
right now".
As well as being European Commission VP, Dombrovskis is
commissioner for the euro and social dialogue.
