Democratic Party (PD) deputy chief
Lorenzo Guerini said Monday the government's Italicum electoral
law can be debated, but the Spanish general election "should
provide food for thought".
The conservative People's Party (PP) of acting Prime
Minister Mariano Rajoy beat leftist Podemos in a repeat general
election that sought to end a long-running political stalemate
Sunday.
"(Our) as yet untested electoral law guarantees
representation and governability," said Guerini. "You don't
change an electoral law over one round of local elections," he
added.
Premier Matteo Renzi's center-left PD faces calls for
changes to the Italicum from its conservative allies after its
poor showing in local elections across Italy earlier this month.
