Premier Matteo Renzi reiterated
Italy's commitment to the European Union on Friday after Britain
voted to leave the bloc.
"We have to change it to make it more human and more
just," Renzi said via his Twitter account.
"But Europe is our home, it's our future".
Renzi spoke to German Chancellor Angela Merkel on the
telephone on Friday to discuss the implications.
He also held a meeting with Economy Minister Paolo
Gentiloni and Bank of Italy Governor Ignazio Visco on Friday
after the referendum. Foreign Minister Paolo Gentiloni, Industry
Minister Carlo Calenda and Cabinet Secretary Marco Minniti
attended the meeting too.
European Council President Donald Tusk is preparing a tour
of European capitals after Britain voted to exit the European
Union, sources said Friday. He may travel to Rome to meet
Italian Premier Matteo Renzi later on Friday and then go to
Paris for talks with Francois Hollande and Berlin for talks with
German Chancellor Angela Merkel in the next few days.
