Labour Minister Giuliano Poletti
said that Tuesday's talks with Italy's big trade unions over the
pension system and labour policies took place in a "positive
climate".
The unions have threatened to stage a general strike if
the government does not respond to calls to change the current
pension and welfare system. They want changes to make it easier
for people to retire early following the 2011 Fornero law,
which, among other things, raised the retirement age.
Poletti said the talks would continue down two different
channels, one for pensions and one for labour policy.
