Premier Matteo Renzi said Tuesday
Junior Industry Minister Claudio De Vincenti did not attend
today's cabinet meeting because "police called him to a judicial
hearing as a witness in connection with the Potenza matter".
De Vincenti's name surfaced in a wiretap of his former boss
Federica Guidi, who resigned as industry minister in March.
Potenza prosecutors are investigating suspected graft,
waste trafficking and illegal waste disposal at Total and ENI
oil treatment plants in the southern Basilicata region.
"When we talk about loyal cooperation, we are serious,"
Renzi added with reference to De Vincenti's absence.
"If in the past someone thought about invoking the
legitimate impediment (clause) to stop trials, we are in favor
of accelerating them... let the names of the culprits be
discovered - we need trials, not in the media but in the
courtrooms".
