The rapporteur of a bill on political
parties, Matteo Richetti of the Democratic Party (PD), presented
to the House constitutional affairs committee Tuesday a unified
text stripping a norm calling for a formal statute that had been
depicted as being against the anti-establishment 5-Star Movement
(M5S). The new bill calls for compulsory transparency on party
affairs and funding but no longer makes it obligatory to have a
statute. M5S founder Beppe Grillo prides himself on the movement
not having a formal statute like traditional parties.
