The government has worked out
the procedures for its entry into Arexpo, a company that manages
the site of the Expo 2015 world fair, the premier's office said
Thursday in a statement.
The agreement was reached at a meeting chaired by
government undersecretary Claudio De Vincenti with Farm Minister
Maurizio Martina, Lombardy Governor Roberto Maroni, Milan Mayor
Giuliano Pisapia, economy cabinet chief Roberto Garofoli, and
the premier's economic adviser Marco Simoni, among others.
Martina said late last year it is "crucial" that the
government be part of the enterprise that will oversee the
redevelopment of the Expo site, calling for "a project for the
area that is strong, ambitious, national in scope".
To date discussion has centered on turning the site into a
new university campus for innovation and research, with a
particular focus on the farm and food sector in keeping with the
theme of Expo 'Feeding the planet, energy for life'.
Arexpo is partially held by the regional and city
governments and owns the land of the Expo site.
