The average retirement income for
Italian women is about 30% less than that of men, the head of a
government economic council told the Lower House Thursday.
On average, men receive a monthly social security cheque of
1,547 euros while women's cheques average 1,081 euros, said
Antonio Marzano, head of the National Council for Economy and
Labour (CNEL).
Citing data from social and pension agency INPS, Marzano
told a House committee that the data included about 7.3 million
male pensioners and about 8.45 million women pensioners.
The 2013 data show that women are far more likely than men
to receive the minimum available pension while men were more
likely to receive the maximum amounts.
About 54% of Italian pensioners are women, and the
remaining 46% male.
