Italian President Sergio
Mattarella said Thursday that it was intolerable that a long
series of migrant-boat disasters have turned the Mediterranean
into a sort of graveyard and demanded robust action to combat
people traffickers. "It's unacceptable that the Mediterranean
should become a big cemetery, a place of burial for those
looking for a better life and running away from famine,"
Mattarella said in Zagreb during an official visit to Croatia.
"Traffickers of human beings should be combatted with all the
strength and vigor possible".
