Local public transport workers of
USB labor union went on strike across Italy on Monday, putting a
halt on transport in major Italian cities including Rome,
Naples, Bologna, Turin and Milan.
Sources in Naples reported however that only 16% of workers
for city transport company ANM went off the job, causing little
disruption in service, and that Metro Line 1, the funicular, and
the Circumvesuviana rail service operated by the EAV company
were all running as usual.
Private car service Uber offered free rides during the
strike to new users in Milan, Turin, Genoa and Rome.
Uber tried out the promotion in Genoa on March 10 when a
local transport strike was called in that city, and registered a
200% increase in new users as well as a 57% increase in rides
compared to the same day one week prior.
