Silvio Berlusconi said on the last day of his court-ordered community service at a care home outside Milan Friday that the experience had been so "touching" he wanted to continue.
The three-time premier and media magnate was ordered to serve a year helping Alzheimer's patients as part of a four-year, mostly commuted sentence for tax fraud at his media empire, his first definitive conviction in over 20 years of legal battles.
The sentence has made Berlusconi ineligible for office for the next five years though he is still leading the centre-right Forza Italia party from outside parliament.
