RAI public broadcaster
director general Luigi Gubitosi said Thursday that changes to
the organization are finally being made after 35 years. "An
invisible wall is falling," said Gubitosi, adding the changes
were historic. He said the new plan approved by the board will
save some 70 million euros a year and bring RAI "up to
international standards" by merging its six TV mastheads along
the lines "of the BBC". "We will be able to do more while
providing more quality service to our viewers," Gubitosi said.
