President Giorgio Napolitano
told the Supreme Council of Magistrates (CSM) Monday not to
engage in behaviors that will undermine their powers. The
judiciary must preserve its "autonomy and independence" by
avoiding "media exposure and the temptation of improper
missions," the president told a plenary assembly of what is the
judiciary's self-governing body. "Prosecuting magistrates and
police are essential (in fighting) the corruption and organized
crime," Napolitano added.
