Premier Matteo Renzi said
Thursday that it is not enough to reform Italian institutions,
election laws and the Constitution. "The first real reform is
that of schools," Renzi said in a speech at the beginning of the
semester at a school for tax police. On his controversial Jobs
Act labour reform, the premier said that these will result in
"fewer excuses but no less rights". Critics, including outraged
trade unions, say that his reforms will reduce workers' job
protections.
