Italy plans to stage quality
at the Colosseum by arranging an "intelligent reconstruction" of
the Flavian amphitheatre, Culture Minister Dario Franceschini
said Friday.
"I am convinced that an intelligent reconstruction of the
Colosseum arena, which is the monument that symbolises the
country, could make it become much, much more attractive,"
Franceschini told the Foreign Press Association in the nation's
capital.
"One must make monuments come alive," he continued. The
minister envisioned "classical music, ancient drama, spectacular
things that clearly would have enormous cultural value in terms
of television rights".
Franceschini said the idea was a "project that requires
both resources and planning, therefore not something that can be
done in two minutes - but the debate is open and it is
interesting".
