Police on Thursday clashed
with protesters from leftist grassroots movements ahead of a
visit by center-left premier Matteo Renzi to the northern city.
The clashes occurred when some demonstrators protesting the
government's Jobs Act labor reform bill tried to push through a
police cordon near city hall, sources said.
The premier is slated to meet with Mayor Federico
Pizzarotti and other mayors from surrounding cities in the
wealthy, traditionally leftist Emilia Romagna region.
