Some 1,000 psychiatric staff -
doctors and nurses - are attacked by patients in Italy every
year, the Italian Society of Psychiatry (SIP) said Friday.
The number of attacks is likely to rise, it said, because
of health cuts and the use of new and less tested drugs whose
side effects could be unpredictable.
The SIP was celebrating its first Day of Health and Safety
for Psychiatric Staff, dedicated to psychiatrists Paola
Labriola, killed last year, and Rocco Pollice, who committed
suicide in January.
