Premier Matteo Renzi met with
members of his cabinet Wednesday on his controversial reforms to
the country's election law, sources said.
House and Senate leaders for Renzi's Democratic Party (PD)
as well as Maria Elena Boschi, minister for reforms, were among
those at the session.
Renzi said earlier this month that his electoral reform
will produce a clear winner at the next election.
"We will change the electoral law so winners and losers are
easily identifiable," he said.
As well, the reforms will make sure "the winner will be
responsible for everything for five years," Renzi has said.
But some MPs from his own party as well as opposition
members have said they are opposed to the reforms because Renzi
hammered them out with ex-premier Silvio Berlusconi, leader of
the centre-right Forza Italia.
