The mayor of Rome and left-wing
politicians expressed solidarity Monday with the capital's
Jewish community after anti-semitic posters and swastika signs
appeared on some shops overnight.
Jewish Community President Riccardo Pacifici said the
posters in the via Appia and Prati areas "remind one of 1933
when yellow stars were stuck on the entrances to Jewish-owned
shops" in Rome.
Posters on several stores in the Via Appia said "Anne Frank
sings fibs" while others in Prati evidently printed by
neo-Fascist militants struck an anti-Israeli note saying "Every
Palestinian is today like a comrade -- One enemy, one
barricade".
"The anti-semitic writings that appeared today in different
areas of the city are shameful and an offense to all Romans,"
Mayor Ignazio Marino said.
