Interior Minister Angelino Alfano said Friday two European Parliament venues were too expensive and scrapping one of them would be a signature demand of his New Centre Right (NCD) party in the May 25 EP elections.
"One of our battles will be closing one of the two EP venues, Brussels or Strasbourg.
"We don't understand why there should be two parliamentary seats, two buildings.
"They cost too much and this Europe cannot afford it," said the interior minister, whose NCD is a junior partner in the Italian government led by the centre-left Democratic Party's Matteo Renzi.
