Umbria Governor Catiuscia Marini thanked ANSA news agency for its efforts in helping promote the region at an event titled "Telling the story of excellence: ANSA news for spreading the best of Umbria in Italy and the world".
The event, which was held on Wednesday at the Cucinelli Theatre in the medieval village of Solomeo, just outside Perugia, showed how ANSA is raising awareness of Umbria's many treasures to help spread news about the region to the world.
ANSA's Umbrian headquarters also celebrated its 30-year-anniversary for the occasion.
In addition to Marini, participants in the event included Umbrian fashion designer Bruno Cucinelli, ANSA President Giulio Anselmi, and ANSA Editor-in-Chief Luigi Contu.
"ANSA provides news that tells the story of what a territory and its people express," Marini said.
"I thank you all for how you are helping us tell the story of Umbria, which is on its feet after the earthquake, by promoting success stories that go beyond an agenda of critical issues," she said.
Anselmi said ANSA is a news agency "that tries to bring together the larger world with the hometown square, by telling the stories of both with credibility".
The city of Perugia was ANSA's fourth stop on a tour that has already visited Naples, Bologna, and Trieste.
Anselmi noted that Umbria is among the five most well-known Italian regions in the world.
"We want to let the entire world know about the positive things and the treasures Umbria has to offer," he said. "And we are doing it by focusing on accurate and credible news, which is important in a time of fake news," he said.
Contu said the news business is going through a "unique moment".
"If we think back to our initial launch in 1945, it already had the character of a tweet, and so we can say that we were already born digital," Contu said.
"This digital challenge has led us to keep pace with the times, and to have 28 million unique users on the website, with all the correspondents in Italy who read about the country through the eyes of ANSA," he said.
