The seventh edition of the
World Tourism Expo (WTE) of world heritage cities and sites
opened Friday at Padua's 14th-century Palazzo della Ragione.
The event is sponsored by the Italian Association for
UNESCO World Heritage Sites with the support of ANSA's ViaggiArt
app and website, which provide continuous news updates and
information to guide tourists in Italy.
The focus of UNESCO heritage site tourism is on experiences
that place sites, works of art and monuments within a historical
and cultural context.
WTE runs through September 25 with conferences, seminars,
workshops, and B2B meetings.
Last year's event saw 20,000 visitors, and this year's
sponsors include the Italian Tourism Board, the Veneto
Consortium of the Cities of Art and the Italian Culture
Ministry.
Representatives from more than 120 UNESCO sites are present
at the event as well as about a hundred Italian and foreign tour
operators.
