A hamburger joint carrying the
name of Italian quality-food chain Eataly at Settimo, near
Turin, was put under sequester on Wednesday as part of a probe
into the alleged criminal use of shell companies, sources said.
Eataly stressed that the joint was a franchise and it had
already asked for its name to be removed from it.
Carabinieri police seized 29 companies with a combined
turnover of 250 million euros as part of the Avatar operation
that also saw six entrepreneurs from the Turin area arrested.
They were alleged involved in a criminal gang that operated
in Italy and abroad and used false identities and shell
companies to obtain millions of euros in financing.
The burger joint was allegedly controlled by one of the
seized companies.
