Luciano Pavarotti's family on
Thursday urged Donald Trump not to use the late operatic tenor's
music for his campaign.
"We learned today that the aria 'Nessun dorma' performed by
Luciano Pavarotti is being used (on) the Donald Trump campaign
soundtrack," read a letter signed by several members of the
family.
"We remind you that the values of brotherhood and
solidarity that Luciano Pavarotti upheld throughout his artistic
career are incompatible with the world vision of the candidate
Donald Trump".
The letter was signed by Lorenza, Cristina, Giuliana and
Nicoletta Mantovani Pavarotti.
Pavarotti (1935-2007) established himself as one of the
finest tenors of the 20th century and was also known for his
charity work on behalf of refugees and the Red Cross, amongst
others.
'Nessun dorma' (None shall sleep) is an aria from the final
act of Giacomo Puccini's frequently performed opera Turandot and
is one of the best-known tenor arias in all opera.
