A Carabinieri raid on Wednesday
afternoon freed a 25-year-old Briton who had been held for
around eight days in an apartment at Monte San Giusto near
Macerata in Marche, sources said Thursday.
The police arrested four people, three men and a woman, two of
them foreigners with residency permits and two of them Italian,
all resident in the Macerata area.
The young man had been on holiday in Italy for months and the
alleged kidnapping gang had asked for a ransom of just 7,000
euros, police said.
The probe into the case used input from Britain's National Crime
Agency, which leads the UK's fight to cut serious and organised
crime.
