Austria will not reopen, for the
moment, its border with Italy, Foreign Minister Alexander
Schallenberg said Wednesday.
"We are opening towards seven neighbouring countries and
there will be no more controls, like before the coronavirus
emergency," he said.
"But the data do not permit it with Italy, however we intend
to do so as soon as possible.
"It is not a decision against Italy".
A European Commission spokesman recalled "the very important
principle of non-discrimination based on nationality, ensuring
that regions with a similar epidemiological situation receive
the same treatment."
Germany, meanwhile, decided to lift an alert on travel to
other European countries from June 15.
