Italian police told parliament
Wednesday that driving licenses should be seized after the first
use of smartphones causing a crash and not as at present the
second one.
The main cause of car accidents, said Polstrada chief Santo
Puccia, "is distraction, and the improper use of smartphones or
other devices is the top cause of distraction".
Today, he said, license are only confiscated when there is a
recurrence of the offence "and this has been shown not to be
effective in terms of deterrence".
Puccia was reporting to the Lower House transport committee.
