Rome won the 'booby prize' for
sinkholes in a report released on Wednesday by public
environment agencies ISPRA and SNPA.
The report said 136 sinkholes were registered in the capital
in the last 10 months of 2018 alone.
The report also warned about growing urban sprawl in Italy.
It said Italian towns and cities had consumed 650 hectares of
territory in 2016 and 2017.
The report said the cost of urban sprawl in terms of lost of
ecological system services amounted to between 215 and 270
million euros between 2012 and 2017.
