The body of a 70-year-old
woman, Filomena Sorvillo, was found on Friday at her home in
Orta di Atella, near the southern city of Caserta, and the
woman's son has been detained for suspected homicide, sources
said.
The 40-year-old son, who lived with his mother, was found at
the scene when Carabinieri police arrived.
The woman's face was badly swollen and the man is thought to
have dragged her down by her hair and then smashed her head
repeatedly against the floor, the sources said.
He then called an uncle and said he had "screwed up",
according to the sources.
