Highway company Autostrade per
l'Italia (ASPI) on Wednesday suspended the transit of oversize
loads on the A25 motorway that links Italy with the Port of
Genoa.
The ban applies to loads above 75 tonnes.
Genoa hauliers and shippers association Spediporto General
Manager Giampaolo Botta announced the move saying he was
concerned at the consequences.
The suspension, he said, was due to "the necessary start of
controls on the numerous viaducts along the A26, which is the
only motorway used by oversize loads to and from the Port of
Genoa".
A bridge collapsed in Genoa on August 14 killing 43 people.
