A hydrofoil, the "Gianni
M.", hit the pier on the island of Vulcano on Friday, resulting
in one sailor falling overboard but no injuries.
The sailor, who was standing on the bow in preparation for
docking and lost his balance when the boat hit, was able to
climb onto the dock with the help of the linesmen on shore.
The hydrofoil suffered light damage to its bow but continued
its onward journey to the island of Milazzo, in the Aeolian
archipelago.
The Italian Coast Guard has opened an investigation.
