Oscar-winning director Giuseppe
Tornatore has been accused of sexual molestation by an Italian
showgirl, Miriana Trevisan.
Neapolitan-born Trevisan, 44, accused the 61-year-old Nuovo
Cinema Paradiso director of fondling and kissing her in his
office 20 years ago.
"I went to Giuseppe Tornatore's office. My agent organised
the meeting. It wasn't an audition, but a first meeting in view
of a film in production," Trevisan said in an interview with
Vanity Fair.
She said that when she got up to leave, "he followed me to
the door, pushed me up against the wall and started kissing my
neck and ears, his hands roughly fondling my breasts".
Trevisan, known for TV shows including Striscia la Notizia
and La Ruota della Fortuna, added: "I managed to get away from
him and run out the door,"
She speculated that Tornatore "probably doesn't even remember
it".
The Sicilian director told La Repubblica daily he did
remember the meeting, insisting: "I never laid a finger on her.
"I remember a cordial meeting, and reject the insinuations
made," he said, adding that he was considering legal action.
