An Algerian immigrant threw
himself off the roof of his two-storey home in Jesolo near
Venice and is in a very serious condition after the 10-metre
fall, police said Wednesday after vainly trying to to talk him
down.
Police were called to the premises by the immigrant's partner
who reported that he had beaten her in an umpteenth domestic
row.
The 41-year-old man, who reportedly has a record for drugs
offences, kept on drinking beer while the Carabinieri talked to
him and then suddenly took a run-up and threw himself off the
roof.
He was taken to a Mestre hospital where he is in "very
serious" condition with fractures to his pelvis, skull and other
parts of his body, medical sources said.
