(ANSA) Rome, May 24 - Some 50,000 migrants have landed in
Italy in the first months of this year, most from Syria,
Eritrea, Nigeria and Somalia, the head of the department for
civil liberties and immigration, Gerarda Pantalone, told the
parliamentary anti-mafia commission Wednesday.
"The situation has got worse with the (good) weather," she
said, adding by way of comparison that in the whole of 2013
there were 2,000 arrivals and 103,000 in 2015.
Migrants leaving their homes because of conflicts have
"gradually" been joined by those seeking a better life,
so-called economic migrants, she said.
