A 50-year-old policeman shot
dead his wife and two daughters on Wednesday before calling
police to confess and then taking his own life, sources said.
The murder-suicide took place early on Wednesday in the
Cornigliano district of Genoa, the sources said.
The man, Mauro Agrosì, left a letter saying he faced
"insurmountable problems".
Police said he had gambling debts.
After killing his wife, 50, and their daughters, aged 10 and
14, Agrosì called police to say "Come to my house, I'll leave
the door open, I've killed them all".
Agrosì used his service revolver on his family, covering
their faces with a pillow and using it as a silencer.
The man was due to return to service Thursday after being
out for a knee operation.
