A night in which protesters
raised barricades against women refugees near Ferrara was
"repugnant to the Christian conscience," the archdiocese said
Tuesday. It said "women and children lived on our territory a
difficult and hostile night" and said the Church of
Ferrara-Comacchio was "close" to them and the local bishop would
visit them soon. Twelve women refugees, one of them pregnant,
were forced to go to other towns in the Po delta by the road
blocks put up by residents of Gorino.
