A man was sentenced to life
in prison Thursday for murdering his girlfriend and concealing
her body.
Davide Di Martino, 51, was found guilty of kicking,
punching, and stabbing 43-year-old Irene Focardi to death during
a jealous argument, putting her body in a bag and dumping it not
far from her home in a drainage ditch in the outlying Florence
neighborhood of Le Piaggie.
Former model Focardi went missing from her home February 3,
2015, and her remains were found March 29.
When the sentence was read Di Martino turned to the court
and shouted: "You've made a mistake".
The sentence also calls for him to spend eight months in
daytime isolation and awards provisional damages of 130,000
euros to the victim's family.
