Suspect detained in tourist rape

Homeless Romanian man attacked tourist after rejection

(ANSA) - Rome, October 6 - Police on Thursday detained a suspect in the rape, beating and robbery of an Australian tourist in Rome. The man, aged 40, is from Romania and is homeless. He was identified thanks to CCTV footage.
The 49-year-old victim was attacked Sunday night in central Rome.
A passerby came to her aid on Viale delle Terme di Traiano and she was hospitalized at San Giovanni Hospital with face injuries.
Police say the suspect offered to accompany her back to her hotel from a dance club near Termini central rail station, tricked her into walking to an isolated area in Rome's Colle Oppio park near the Colosseum, and attacked her after he tried to kiss her and she rejected his advances.
