Rome Mayor Virginia Raggi on
Tuesday visited a man left in critical condition Sunday when two
men beat him after he asked them to stop smoking in a Rome metro
car.
Raggi visited Maurizio Di Francescantonio in Rome's
Policlinico Umberto I Hospital, where he is being treated for a
cerebral haemorrhage and head trauma.
The 37-year-old victim, who was travelling with his mother,
reportedly asked the young men not to smoke, reminding them they
were in a non-smoking area and was attacked.
His 60-year-old mother was also reportedly hit but was not
seriously injured.
Both suspected attackers, aged 24 and 26, have a criminal
record.
They are from Caserta near Naples.
Charges are set to be filed against them, judicial sources
said.
