The Catania prosecutor's
office has ordered trial for 18 City of Acireale employees
accused of fraud and forgery for workplace absenteeism, reported
local daily La Sicilia on Thursday.
Fifteen of the 18 accused were fired by the City of
Acireale on June 9 following preliminary injunctions filed by a
judge last February in connection with the investigation, which
began after an anonymous tip-off.
Investigators said the accused gave their colleagues their
badges to clock in for them when they weren't actually present
at work.
A preliminary hearing date has not yet been scheduled.
