Earthquake survivors in central
Italy currently living in tents will be offered accommodation in
hotels and camper vans before winter sets in, officials said
Wednesday.
Over 2,500 people were left homeles and are living in
Civil Protection Department tents after the 6.2-magnitute quake
on August 24 that claimed 293 lives last Wednesday.
Authorities are will have temporary wooden housing ready by
January, and people must be moved out of the tents as
temperatures are dropping in the stricken mountain regions where
the quake had its epicentre.
"The objective is for them to leave the tents as soon as
possible," said the Civil Protection Department's David Fabi,
who heads the unit coordinating relief efforts in Rieti.
