The National Geophysics and Vulcanology Institute (INGV) said Tuesday that as of 19:00 last night, a total of 2,553 tremors occurred since an August 24, 6.2-magnitude earthquake leveled several villages and left 292 people dead in central Italy.
These included 129 quakes measuring between 3 and 4 on the Richter scale, 12 measuring between 4 and 5, and one of magnitude 5.4, which occurred an hour after the initial, devastating tremor, at 04:33 on August 24 near the Umbria town of Norcia.
Two tremors measuring over 3 on the Richter scale occurred yesterday evening, near the Marche city of Macerata and the Umbria city of Perugia. The August 24 quake destroyed mountain villages in the Lazio and Marche regions.
